Software for Builders Merchants from Ramtac enables better business.

On the very edge of the famous Romney Marshes in Kent is the village of Dymchurch, home of Youngs Timber and Builders Merchants.
They occupy a highly visible site on the A259 in Hythe Road not far from the M20 and are predominantly Timber Merchants; they also stock and supply to both trade and retail a wide range including, Sheet Materials, Plasterboards, Heavyside, Insulation, Paint, Paving, Plumbing, Roofing, Tools, Ironmongery and Lead.

It was not always so; Edward Levitt bought a building company in 1972, with the merchant business steadily increasing, a decision was made to cease the construction division and concentrate on merchanting, the current site was purchased in 2000, and over the years it has evolved into a busy merchant with 19 staff and 4 delivery vehicles.

In the 1980s his sons Chris and John joined the business and now run it between them. The range has grown because the company’s semi rural location has created a need to carry a wide spectrum of products but also to fill gaps left by national companies closing local branches affected by the recent recession. With timber being an integral part of the business, investment was made to install modern mill facilities, with Stenner resaw, 5head planning and moulding machinery and profile cutter grinding equipment; Youngs are able to process and mould to specific customer equirements.

Both softwoods and hardwoods are stock items. Investment was also made in the handling and storage of carcassing timber. Value added processes are key to the business, and Youngs currently hold TRADA certification for timber stress grading, and early in 2010 obtained chain of custody
certification to supply FSC and PEFC timber, giving full traceability to timber and sheet materials
